Theatre – The Big reTHINK

Are you going? I attended the dress rehearsal for The Big reTHINK last night @ Q Theatre. Destigmatize mental illness. BIG subject. The show had everything from epilepsy to bipolar. I think most people have suffered from mental unwellness sometime in their life, whether it be short term, be it depression or anxiety? ‘Motherlock’ comes to mind. I have read many books on mental illness, lots of autobiographies such as ‘An Unquiet Mind’ by Kay Jamison or ‘All that glitters’ by Denise L’Estrange-Corbet. Both great reads, humbling and satisfying to the soul. Funnily enough, I have worked as a Mental Health Practitioner for some years in the UK and NZ, specialising in acute mental illness (Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Maternal Mental Health) Lots of stories. One of the key messages from ‘The Big reTHINK’ was not to not discriminate, everyone is a human being and should be treated equally. Agreed. The comedians are refreshing including Mark Scott, Penny Ashton and Tevita Manukia. Brilliant. Check it out. Only four more nights. Definitely food for thought.
