When yet another romantic relationship came “burning down in a spectacular fashion,” Amy Webb sought the advice of her friends and family, including her grandmother. “She said, ‘Stop being so picky,’” Webb recalls in today’s talk. “‘True love will find you when you least expect it.’”[ted_talkteaser id=1833]

This advice struck Webb, who as a digital strategist deals with data for a living, as preposterous. “I can take my grandmother’s advice and sort of ‘least expect’ my way into maybe bumping into the one out of 35 possible men in the entire 1.5 million-person city of Philadelphia — or I can try online dating,” she says in this talk. “Now, I like the idea of online dating because it’s predicated on an algorithm.
